Taking that chart into accuount, the Saffire seems to be seriously good value for the money, but I would still like to see the results of a loopback test to determinate whether it's accurate. To find the latest driver for your computer we recommend running our Free Driver. For that reason I should probably consider the saffire 56 as well, because it has a higher sample rate. Unfortunately effects are out of sync with MIDI items by up to the same amount as the latency, which can be problematic if you need tight midi message performance. Latency is a big deal to me as I like to draw midi with the envelope editor rather than midi editor using the ReaMIDI stock FX. I was able to find an adjusted latency performance chart from gearslutz forum posted originally by TAFKAT:

Unfortunately I am using windows and it seems like the bug was fixed only for mac users. Don't discount the 2626 because of an old driver bug that's been fixed. Here's the post about the 610, which shares the same innerds with the 2626.īoth the 6 use the exact same drivers.

When I rebuilt my DAW a couple of years ago I used the latest drivers (6.0.9). The latest drivers supposedly corrected the problem. So, do you guys here have any recommendations, maybe I am ignoring some potent interfaces? If you have the time, run the loopback test on your interface and perhaps we can find the cleanest one :-).ĭidn't M-Audio determine that was a driver issue and fixed it? I'd read about the same problem with my ProFire 610 (though I'd never experienced it).

Steinberg/RME interfaces are a bit more expensive as well, but seem to pretty much use the same converters etc. I haven't really looked into it too much yet, as it seems a bit more expensive but otherwise the same quality as the two interfaces above. My third choice would be an Echo Audiofire Pre8.

Anyway it's really easy and fast to experiment with it, just download RMAA 6.2.5 choose your drivers (use 96khz) and click on the run playback/recording test and report back. The official specs of course claim it's transparent, but I have heard people complaining that the highend is not there. I would like to ask any saffire owners here to run a loopback test through it with the gain set to between 4-5 (so the output volume=input volume). The sound might still be clean though despite the preamp. Most of my recording is line level, so that's a bummer. The biggest thing for me however is that you can't turn off the pres. Unfortunately it's "only" 96khz, phantompower is global as well. Next, I stubmled upon the Focusrite Saffire 40 Pro.

However, I found out that it has a bug that makes it incapable of sample accurate recording. The first interface which fits that description was an M-audio Profire 2626. As for the budget, let's just say the lower the better. Preferably an 8+ I/O with some expandibility and pres, but most importantly a clean sound and the lowest latency possible. Not sure if this is the best forum to post this in.
